Berla has released iVe 5.1, an update to its vehicle forensics platform that adds new ways to acquire data from vehicle infotainment and telematics systems. The company announced the release on October 26, 2026.

According to Berla's announcement, the release adds 25 new acquisition profiles across 15 system variants, expanding support for Probe Acquisition, Chip-off Import, and Export+. It also adds 40 new instructional resources.

What's new in iVe 5.1

Probe Acquisition. iVe 5.1 adds 11 Probe Acquisition profiles for Stellantis, Hyundai/Kia, Ford and Volkswagen Group vehicle systems. Berla says six of these system variants were previously limited to USB Export support and now have an alternative acquisition method. The company describes probe acquisition as non-destructive access to data directly from system memory, without relying on vehicle power or a functioning system interface, which may help when a vehicle can't be powered on or a display is damaged.

Chip-off Import. The release adds 14 Chip-off Import profiles for Stellantis, Hyundai/Kia and Volkswagen Group systems. Chip-off Import lets data extracted from removed memory chips be imported into iVe for decoding and analysis. Berla also added 14 chip-off preparation instructions to guide the preparation of target components for chip removal and reading.

Export+. iVe 5.1 adds one Export+ profile for a Hyundai/Kia system, giving that system a media-based acquisition path.

New instructional resources

Berla reports 40 new resources covering preparation, disassembly and system removal, including chip-off preparation instructions, disassembly instructions, system removal instructions, and system identification guides. Berla says these extend its system-specific guidance, from system access through acquisition setup.

Fixes and known issues

Berla's release notes also list fixes, including restored unlocking methods for Honda HDD-based navigation systems, restored Chip-off (.nbo) import support for Uconnect VP Gen 1, and fixed OnStar Gen 8 and Gen 9 connection tests. Listed known issues include no restart or resume for OnStar 8/9 versions and variants, OnStar Gen 11 time records parsed without seconds (which may cause minor time differences), and no support yet for SD card acquisitions in this version.

Why it matters for examiners

Vehicle systems are a growing evidence source, and the right acquisition method often depends on the vehicle's condition and the system involved. More supported methods, with matching preparation guidance, give examiners more choices. As with any tool update, examiners should review Berla's release notes for their specific systems and validate results in their own lab before relying on them in casework.
